Since ancient times in traditional cultures, the Elders have marked the stages of growth and maturity with celebration and ritual. The Vision Quest is a ceremony by which the aspirant is encouraged to go into the sacred space of the wilderness for three or four days and nights alone, but under the auspices of a trained mentor or medicine person, to invoke Spirit, and to seek guidance. It is a ritual of death and renewal, a dying to the old way of being and an opportunity to be reborn into the new. This is a particularly powerful and beautiful rite of passage which has many applications.
The Vision Quest can be used as a model to help us tap into the world beyond the physical and material - the world of the dreamtime where archetypal and visionary forces speak to us through metaphor and symbol.
