Popularised by American Psychiatrist, Dr Eric Berne in his 1960's book, 'Games People Play ', this therapy is a combination of Humanistic Psychology and Behavioural Therapy. Dr Berne aimed to provide a quicker route to emotional health by focusing on individual problems and not the patient's whole history. According to Dr Berne we all have three aspects to our personalities : Parent, Adult and Child. In the course of communicating with others - "transactions" as entitled by Dr Berne - we need to use all these aspects in the most positive ways possible. The games of the book's title are the destructive transactions with others into which we repeatedly get hooked and which only result in negative reactions from others.
Notes: Gives one insight into one's relationships and the tools to conduct them in a generally more successful and rewarding way. Can help those who see themselves as 'victims' to learn to assert themselves constructively..
