This therapy evolved from the old Child Guidance and offers a creative medium for self-expression and a safe place for the child to act out difficult emotions. Projective techniques are used which combine play with puppets, dolls, toys and stories, and the play media of sand, water, clay and finger paints. Children are encouraged to employ their own natural language of play be it with or without verbal interaction. PLAYTHERAPY sessions may be a logical step after earlier Family Therapy work in helping children facing trauma. Play is intrinsically healing for us all.
Notes: Suitable for children from the age of 2 upwards who have suffered divorce, abuse or neglect. Many hospitals now offer this therapy to sick children in their care.
